Bon Voyage 322

This brochure demonstrates multiple things offered in the East Aurora area. It is easy to read and not to heavy on the eye with graphics. Everything is clearly labeled and organized.

The layout of this resume is unique.  The layout is neat and there is a perfect balance of white space. The resume overall will stand out and leave a memorable impression viewer.

The logo it exemplifies class and simplicity all at once. It could be a little more descriptive in the sense of showing a direction. The lens does not properly identify whether this is photography or videography.

The text wrap around the image sits perfectly from the beginning of the image to the end. The font family between the logo and the header (the name Tilece Freeman) blends and correlates well.

The flyer does an amazing job grabbing the eye of the viewer. The image and the title draws you in, and makes you more to be interested in what the flyer it self is addressing.

Appraisal Memorandum

Emma Watson's Siren Call:
Overall, the layout of this magazine ad is superb. It is simple and straight to the point. One of the many strength's that was noticed was the way that the title is displayed. It was creative and ingenious. It is different from all the other fonts you would see displayed a magazine. However, there were also many weaknesses that was noticed as well. First thing that caught the eye was the white space. White space is typically good being that less is more, however in this case it may be too much. Because the letter "S" is about half the size of the page, it takes up too much room and causes the other fonts to be written much smaller. This can be a little difficult on the eye, for anyone trying to read it. The creative idea behind the style of the heading was a good start, but the text also needs to be an appropriate size for viewers to comprehend. The heading at the top where it describes a little bit about Emma Watson, could have been designed better as well. It is similar to a new heading that you may see in a news paper, and comes across and plain and dull. Plain and dull is fine, however, it clashes with the font used for "Siren Call," being that it is so bold and exciting. It needs to be a font similar to the one used to write the paragraphs, or something that can flow with the font used for the bigger heading being that it stands out so much on the page. The text seems sloppy and jumbled up, being that it is all gathered in that one section of the page. If font text and size were changed around a bit, still keeping the same overall layout of the article, this can be three times better.

C. Jones Expertise:
The layout of Christina Jone's resume is phenomenal. There is a perfect balance between text and white spaces. All the fonts used throughout the template flow and blend perfectly together. One of the weaknesses pointed out though, would have to be the kerning. For example, the subhead "Education" is aligned closely together and looks like one group of text, while "work experience" is not. It seems as if it an extra space was added in between each letter, to separate the words further apart intentionally. The subhead "professional activities," could be fixed as well being that the word "professional" was written so close together, but "activities" seems overly spaced out. Some improvements could have been made in the kerning area. Also, having the entire resume on a slant, may take away from the simplicity for some viewers. It may have been better to have it straight along the page, now it is a little difficult trying to read what each text box is saying, without having to slightly turn my page. It would look more clean and neat if it was just straight down the page.

Look, See or Visualize?

Visual communication has more of an impact in the passing of information from person to person. It is the most common and most important form of communication that individuals respond to. It is the artistic way to express information by the use of gestures, images, or even advertising posters, signs and much more. It is the easiest to respond to being that an individual is able to process an image faster than reading a sentence and trying to process words they may not be familiar with. Remembering something you saw visually compared to something you read, 9 times out of 10 you're going to remember more of what you saw. Depending on how the visual tool is being portrayed, sight and sound is extremely important. The presentation has to be simple and easy to understand, yet not to harsh on the eyes. Although it is a visual message, if the sound is more overpowering than the visual presentation, it may be hard for the individual to focus on "seeing" rather than "listening." There has to be an equal balance between the two. Your presentation has to be appealing to the eyes. If it is appealing to the eyes, it will keep your audience interested. Typography and color are also important because it contributes to the emotional response of your audience. If there isn't a perfect balance between the two, it can be overwhelming and cause confusion or a distraction to the audience. For example, the amazon logo is one of the few companies that displays strong visual communication. Although the logo is simply the name of the company with an arrow pointing from the letter "a" to the letter "z," it is plain and simple for the viewer to understand. It is not too bold and bright, and it is easy to identify right off the back. Most viewer don't know there is a message within their logo. The arrow pointing from "a" to "z" is to represent that their company sells everything from A to Z, and to be interpreted in the shape of a smile representing their customers satisfaction. Fed Ex is another great company with strong visual communication. The logo consist of two colors purple and orange, and it is easily spotted and noticeable to an individual. It's not too harsh and overwhelming, it is plain and simple. It is easily identified by it's viewers. However, within their logo, there is an arrow between the "e" and the "x" that is to be a subliminal message representing their speed and precision. Baskin Robbins is another company with strong visual communication within their logo. The company is originally known for their 31 flavors, in which they incorporated into their logo. The logo is a "B" and "R" which is the abbreviation for their company name, but within the B and R they incorporated the number "31." The logo is easy to recognize and identify. It is memorable and is appealing to the eye because of their hidden message.
